Getting a Nursing Degree Online
Nursing is a field that is always hiring. No matter what the economic situation nurses are always in high demand. If you want to break into the field of nursing, but cannot afford to take time off of work to go to school, getting a nursing degree online is your answer. No matter what online school you end up choosing there will be some hands-on training you will be required to complete. Getting a nursing degree cannot be done completely online, but much of it can.
Before starting to look for schools, make sure you really know all there is to know about nursing. Is there a specific field of nursing that you are most interested in? Being a nurse is a hard job, often with long and overnight hours. Talk to some nurses and ask lots of questions to help you determine if this is really the field that you want to go into.
There are several types of nursing degrees that can be achieved online. If you are already a paramedic or vocational nurse getting an Associate of Nursing Science or ASN can be done online. This degree leads to an RN or Registered Nurse degree. Getting a Bachelors of Science in Nursing or BSN can also lead to getting RN status. Getting an MSN or Masters of Science in Nursing is a Masters degree in a specific area of nursing. Finally there is a Doctorate of Nursing which is used more for research roles.
Most online courses for getting a nursing degree will require you to get anywhere from 60 to 90 units. This is not including practical or laboratory hours, which will need to be completed separately. The majority of the online schools will charge anywhere from $110 to $200 per unit. This can be an expensive education, but there are many grants and scholarships available for these schools. Be sure to check them out. It is also possible to apply for student loans when going through an online training program if that will ease your way as well.
