Earning a Bachelor Degree Online

With more and more students of all ages interested in taking courses online, colleges now offer not only certificates and Associate degrees, but a Bachelor degree online as well. Online schools are designed to fit the needs of adults who never had a chance to go to college, perhaps because of income considerations, location, or work and family responsibilities. But today, more and more people are obtaining their Bachelor degree online thanks to the wide range of courses and subjects now available through online programs.

It used to be called 'correspondence' school, then 'long-distance' learning. Nowadays, online schooling has become as popular as attending a college campus on a daily basis. And as long as an online college is accredited, a Bachelor degree earned online holds just as much weight as a degree obtained from a 'brick and mortar' college or university. Earning a Bachelor degree online opens a world of possibilities to people who never had the chance to attend college or had to drop out for various reasons. More and more older adults, both men and women, are returning to school to earn a Bachelor degree online, or reach even higher. Many accredited online teaching institutions are offering Masters degrees and more for education hungry people from all walks of life.

One of the most popular and well-known online schools is Phoenix University, which offers both Associate and Bachelor degree online choices. Penn Foster and ITT Technical University offer these as well. But what about the traditional colleges? Many of them are now offering online courses and even degree programs. Brick and mortar universities realize that to keep up with the needs and demands of today's students, they must join in or be left behind. Major universities now offer a Bachelor degree online, as well as other options for those who previously had not attended a post secondary school.

Many in the medical field, including nurses, technicians and medical support staff, are now able to obtain nursing degrees online through accredited colleges. In order to complete a degree in a medical field, testing and clinical skills requirements must still be met.  This may require travel to the testing facility to perform those clinical examinations, but anyone hoping to earn a Bachelor degree online realistically has the opportunity. Many online schools offer a student the option of completing all course work online or offer a more traditional "correspondence" arrangement, including textbooks and testing materials exchanged through the mail. When it comes time to take the final exams, a proctor must be registered for the the virtual students, to monitor the testing environment and oversee completion of the exam requirements.

Today, obtaining higher education is much easier than in the past, thanks to the determination of educators who strive to offer a college education to those who normally wouldn't have the opportunity. A Bachelor degree online program is now available to virtually anyone who has access to a computer.
